Import Newsletter Subscribers

Two methods are supported for importing potential subscribers. You can import your own contacts in a csv file, or you can import your 8i leads.  

Importing a CSV File

You can create your file in Excel or a similar application. If this is not a file exported from 8i, check that it meets these requirements:

• File must contain a header row.

• Format for detail rows must be First Name,Last Name,Email - each field separated with a comma.

• First and Last name have a maximum of 64 characters.

• Email address maximum is 256 characters.

• Completion of all fields is mandatory.

• Maximum number of customers to import = 1,000.

• csv file size can be a maximum of 1.5 MB.

To import a csv file:

1. From the Newsletter Subscriber Report, click Import CSV file.

2. On your desktop, select the csv file you want to import.

During import the file is checked for duplicates.

3. A message confirms the status of your import.

Possible messages: A completed successful import displays a confirmation message. Rows that fail to import are displayed, with a reason for failure. If any duplicate email addresses are imported, the original name and the newly updated name are displayed. If the duplicate fields are all identical, the row is not imported.

4. You are returned to the Subscriber Report, which is updated with the new subscribers.

Importing from 8i

Importing leads from 8i is a two step process. First you export the list from 8i into a csv file as described below, and then follow the steps above to import the csv file into Top Marketer.

Top Marketer validates the format of your 8i export file, and saves the appropriate columns—First name, Last name, Email Address to the csv file.

To export leads from 8i:

1. From your 8i account, go to Contacts > Search for Contacts

2. In the Search Criteria, select Leads or Referrals. (bear in mind that the number you can import into TMK is limited)

3. Select a contact type, and then click Search.

4. In the Search Results list, check the check box beside the names you want to export

check the check box at the top of the column to select all.

5. Click Export Contacts.

6. On the Export Contacts page, choose to export All or Selected contacts.

7. Required: Select Contact record and all addresses and communications option. and then click Export.

8. Name the export file and save it on your computer where you can find it.

9. Follow the steps above to import the file to Top Marketer.
